I accidently made some change in my panel, and after that there was no way left to access skype after O minimized it. To correct this, I proceeded as per
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=194980 . Just add "Notification Area" in your panel.
The same would work for dropbox and other application that might have recently disappeared from the panel.
